Those of us who have been working for many years know for the most part what skills and personal traits are important to land a job. Most of those skills are also used to KEEP your job, once you've started it. But many of you in your teens and early twenties are probably trying to figure this out: How do I apply for a job I want? How do I interview? How do I build my resume? What are employers most interested in? What attitudes and behaviors will help me keep the job I've landed?
It can be quite challenging, in today's economy, to compete with others who are also looking for work. There are many good, qualified candidates out there. Please do not kid yourself that this will be fairly easy, finding a good-paying job with a good company. It is often anything but that! I personally have had to go through a few job searches, over the course of being in the workforce for decades. It can be as hard as preparing to run a difficult race. Not to discourage you, but to prepare you for what lies ahead. Being successful relies on a solid plan of action.
